This August, I'm taking part in Ride for Sick Kids and raising crucial funds to help support hundreds of other families with a seriously ill or injured child, like Indi's.

My Updates

Pain. Lots of pain!

Thursday 28th Aug
As well as riding to and from RMH Newcastle today, the Cubs and I rode from Jewells to Swansea for an ice-cream  ...and then I rode back to my car. If only my phone hadn't gone flat, I'd know how far that was but conservatively it was 20km. That's a 50+km day... and I'm definitely feeling it.

Seeing the kids in the house today was uplifting but it's not always good news stories. RMHC makes all of those journeys better, whether happy or tragic and measurably shifts the balance to the happy end of the scale. Couldn't be prouder of where I work, the amazing people I work with and the difference that we make for kids and families. I'll take a bit of pain to help that along :)

500km target hit today but a big day tomorrow

Tuesday 26th Aug
I'm scheduled to work at RMHC Newcastle House tomorrow, which is a much bigger climb than I'm used to and more kms too. Finish off with a ride with the Cubs!

Staying on target...

Friday 22nd Aug
The weather has not been amazing but I've managed to stay on target and should hit my 650km goal. Passed the 400km mark this morning, which is more than I could actually manage in the first few years of my Ride For Sick Kids journey. Can I make it to 700??? Not sure but I'll try a little bit harder.

Start late, finish late

Tuesday 5th Aug
It's not like me to be on time for stuff but I'm usually good with the start of RFSK. This year it has been pushed into August, which gives me an extra day to ride!

However, I recently had a melanoma surgery and wasn't allowed to lift anything, including my bike. I got my stitches out yesterday and so it all starts today. So, to be fair, I'm going to keep going until 4th September.

Starting from a very low fitness level due to a few weeks of complete inactivity but ...excuses, excuses. It's still nothing like the challenges of the kids and families supported by Ronald McDonald House. I know the extent of my challenge :)
