As Belinda and Tim watched their eldest son be rushed away to theatre, the chaos of the last 24-hours caught up with them.

They'd recieved the unimaginable news that Riley had Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and the treatment he needed was hours from home.

In a state of shock, suddenly unable to work and away from their loved ones, they were left wondering how their family could be together and remain by Riley's side.

That's when they turned to Ronald McDonald House Charities Northern NSW to keep their family close and together during their hardest days.

From our House and Family Rooms in Newcastle to our Family Retreat in Forster, and the Learning Program, Riley and his family have found comfort and support from the wrap-around services we provide; allowing them to focus on what matters most - each other.

Next month, more than 1,500 families* with a seriously ill or injured child, will face the same anxiety and uncertainty that Belinda and Tim experienced, turning to RMHC Northern NSW for support and to keep them together.

Together, we can be there for families with sick kids every step of the way...

Comfort and care in our Houses and Family Rooms...

Walking through the doors of our House, Belinda and Tim felt a wave of relief and comfort. Greeted with a hug, our House became their home for over 240 nights.

And, during long days of specialist appointments and rounds of treatment at the hospital, our Family Room was there - offering them reprieve away from the ward and a place to be together.

Confidence through our Learning Program...
Once the many months of treatment were over, Riley was faced with a new challenge. He had missed over a year of schooling during his treatment and the thought of returning was nerve wrecking. But, supported by our Learning Program he transitioned with ease - gaining and maintaining confidence through his weekly tutoring sessions.

Connection at our Family Retreat...

And, as they returned to their new normal, our Family Retreat offered them the opportunity to reconnect and enjoy their first holiday together in over two years - "Getting to have time away with our boys after everything we've been through, and make happy memories together, is really special."
