You can give sick kids like Logan the best gift of all this Christmas - their family...
Your donation this holiday season can help keep families with a seriously ill or injured child together when it matters most
"We will forever be grateful for Ronald McDonald House Charities, helping us cope when it felt near impossible to keep going."
Logan's Mum, Maddy
Our world was shattered when our six-year-old son, Logan, was diagnosed with cancer.
Within hours, we found ourselves needing to be hundreds of kilometres from our regional home town for Logan’s treatment.
Suddenly unable to work, far from home and away from our loved ones and support system; I was anxious, wondering how our family could stay together by Logan’s side and near the care he needed.
Logan’s dad had only just started up a new business back home and my job needed to be put on hold to care for Logan.
It was an incredibly overwhelming time and I wasn’t in the best headspace. I’d developed anxiety, and being away from our ‘little army’ of friends and family… I felt isolated.
And amongst it all, knowing we wouldn’t be able to celebrate Christmas with loved ones and missing our traditions broke my heart.
Ronald McDonald House was there for our family through it all – offering us a comforting place to call home for over 290 nights and keeping us together when we needed it most.
Financially, it would have been almost impossible for us to be by Logan’s side if it wasn’t for Ronald McDonald House; I don’t know what we would have done.
Knowing we were close to the care Logan needed and surrounded by people who were in a similar situation and really understood what we were going through made all the difference.
At the House, we became friends with the other families. Coming together to celebrate the kid’s birthdays and milestones, arranging ‘family’ dinners and watching the kids be kids – having other parents going through the same thing; I didn’t feel so alone.
Spending Christmas Day with new, life-long friends and watching all the kids play together just like normal children in this place that had become our home was so special.
Many families with a sick child will spend this holiday season far from home at Ronald McDonald House – away from their loved ones and unsure how the festive period will look for them – just like we were.
This Christmas, you can help ease their uncertainty and give them the best gift of all – each other.
